Conversations with David and Kathy: Amping Up Your Activity Programming provides downloadable audio training in relaxed, content-rich half-hour segments. Each audio file is accompanied by a fabulous array of downloadable, printable supplemental training and programming materials.

David’s “Best Friends Approach” is built on a seemingly simple premise: what people living with memory loss need most is a friend – a best friend. David teaches caregivers how to understand and fulfill this “Best Friends” role, including special caregiving techniques and tools. He and his co-author Virginia Bell believe it is possible to make people with Alzheimer’s disease feel safe, secure and valued—to help them live with dignity. They are committed to bettering the lives of people with Alzheimer’s disease by equipping family members and caregivers with “the knack” of providing quality care with ease.

David lives in Sacramento, California, and works as a writer, speaker and consultant. You can learn more at and contact him directly at

Kathy Laurenhue started out like David focusing on people with dementia and their caregivers with her award-winning, international monthly newsletter called “Wiser Now,” widely known for its practical and upbeat content. She was inspired by her ever-cheerful mother who died of Alzheimer’s disease in 1996. For many years she put her master’s degree in instructional technology to work developing multi-media curriculum materials for those who worked in the field of aging in the U.S. and Australia, but gradually broadened her focus.

Always interested in how people can connect with one another to find common ground, she wrote Getting to Know the Life Stories of Older Adults for Health Professions Press. Over the last several years she has been aiming to help people connect through her themed Brain Aerobics/Mind Play booklets, each of which features more than a dozen trivia quizzes, word games, discussion topics, and reminiscence or imagination exercises. She has also discovered a knack (as David would say) for connecting with people through friendly letters, a service you can learn more about at (link)

You can also learn more at her other websites: and or contact her directly at Kathy also writes two blogs: and

David and Kathy have been colleagues and friends for many years and are delighted to offer this new training series to you. Look for additions in the months ahead.
